More than 140 years ago, the story of the 1st Alabama Cavalry began. It began with a small cry from a minority. Their goal, hold true to the Union.
Eventually, that small cry would grow to the point that men took up arms against their home state of Alabama and the Confederacy.
Time has taken its toll on their story. In our schools, their story is never told. It has been forgotten as generations passed and denied by families who were too proud of the myth that all Alabama men fought for the Confederacy. Some couldn't see to the truth.
Today, there is a new movement. Family histories have come alive. Descendants have begun to dive into the past to find the truth. A past that they once abandoned. Researchers and authors have started to write about the sacrifices of the men and families who held true to "The Old Flag."
That is the space this site hope to fill. We hope to become your source for information about the 1st Alabama Cavalry, USV. We hope to provide you with stories, pictures, and a history of the original First and keep you up to date with the field reports of the men who reenact the unit today.
Many of the troopers from the first suffered legally, politically, and socially for their loyalty. We want to be sure that they are remembered and honored for their sacrifice in the generations to come.
If you have something that you would like to contribute, feel free to contact us. We are looking for your pictures, family stories, and diaries. We want to share them with others who share your interest in the 1st Alabama Cavalry, United States Volunteers.
