It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of Glenda McWhirter Todd. She passed away on September 3, 2017 surrounded by her family. She was a historian, genealogist, and author who prided herself on being a descendant of Andrew Ferrier McWhirter of the 1st Alabama Cavalry, USV. Her work over the past two decades and her dedication to the 1st Alabama Cavalry has created a legacy that will last for years to come.

Her life's work has touched thousands of people through the years, and I am glad that I had the pleasure to work with her as long as I did. My hope is that her work will live on for years to come to educate and inspire a new generation.

James Jarrett
James "Jim" Jarrett was born April 4, 1838 in Fairfield Dist., SC and died January 23, 1918 in Davidson Co., TN. He married 1st, about 1858, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Kelley, born November 10, 1841 in Elbert Co., GA, died sometime before 1870 in Robertson Co., TN. She was the daughter of Margaret Menervia Scales (1810-1877) and Barnabas Kelley (1810-1887). James and Elizabeth had the following children: Nancy Adeline; James Henry, born January 3, 1862 in TN and Elizabeth Matilda Jane, born September 30, 1865 in TN. He married 2nd, Fidelia Rhodes in Robertson Co., TN and she died October 22, 1913. Other children of James were: Mary Ada, born September 30, 1871; William, born August 6, 1873; George, born November 6, 1875 and Charlie Davis Jarrett, born December 20, 1870. In a form completed by James April 1, 1915, he stated that his children Elizabeth, Mary and Charlie were dead. He also stated in his pension application that he was the brother-in-law of Joseph Harper, also a soldier in the First Alabama Cavalry US Volunteers.
