Columbus S. Jones enlisted in Company B of the 1st Battalion Mississippi Mounted Rifles on January 1, 1864 at Memphis, Tennessee for a period of three (3) years or the duration of the war. He was enrolled by Captain Gilbert. He was mustered in on January 27, 1864 at Memphis. The Muster and Descriptive Roll listed him as being twenty (20) years of age, five-feet, eleven-inches tall, having a fair complexion, gray eyes, light hair, born in Tippah County, Mississippi, and a farmer by occupation. A note on this same file stated Columbus was a “Veteran volunteer by reason of former service in Company G of the 1st Alabama Cavalry. Vida 6658-6-1881. A note on the May and June 1864 Muster Roll stated it was his second enrollment and he was due a bounty. Columbus was appointed 6th Corporal on February 25, 1864. He was mustered out on June 26, 1865 at Memphis, Tennessee and paid $180 bounty with $120 still due him. Columbus S. Jones was able to sign his name to his Volunteer Enlistment Form.Buried:
