Notes: James Lowry married Nancy Utley July 28, 1857 in Morgan Co., AL and had the following children: Thomas L., born June 18, 1858; Mary E., born September 15, 1860; and Jesse Sherman, born November 22, 1865. Apparently James had been married earlier, as an affidavit in Nancy's pension papers states, "The said James C. Lowry left one child named Celia A. by a former marriage, who was nineteen years old in November 1867." According to the 1860 Lawrence Co., AL Census, Celia was living with James and Nancy Lowry. Nancy J. Lowry died October 8, 1907.
Nancy Utley was the oldest sister of Reed C. Mayfield, so James was Reed's brother-in-law during the war.
Celia married Reed C. Mayfield in 1868, so James was also serving with his future son in law during the war.
