Notes:
Obediah Cabaniss was born in 1832. He was the son of Peter Randolph Cabaniss, born about 1795 in Nottoway Co., VA, died before 1834 in Tuscaloosa Co., AL, and Catherine Mayfield, born 1806 in SC. He was the brother of Madison Cabaness.
Obediah first enlisted in Co. C, 41st Alabama Infantry, CAS on 5/15/1862 at Tuscaloosa, AL. Muster Roll of 30 June 1862 states that he was absent in hospital at Knoxville, TN. Muster Roll of March and April stated that he was furloughed from hospital to Marion Co., AL and never returned tot his unit. He then enlisted in the Union Army. He was charged with desertion by the CSA and found guilty. He was sentensed to be shot to death with musketry. (Some of the men charged had their sentenses remitted.) He was executed on 10 November 1864.
